2 questions:

1)Which is better (for slackware):
installing AMP from respective source? binary from linuxpackages.net?
or binary package installer like XAMPP, APMP, etc.?

2)IS the xushi's guide is using good practice for the inital setup/config?
I'm a noob and kinda paranoid regarding internet security.
It will be nice if you guys add tips for secure setup/config regarding AMP.
Simple tips would be fine (especially for initial setup).
There will be many different opinion about the security. Secure for one
may not too secure for other and vice versa. Depend on policies, environment, etc.

The best for Slackware is to use official Slackware packages.
The best for security is to have iptables and tcpwrappers setup.

I'm a newbie.. I installed slackware 10.2 last night and a good community type pointed me here as I was asking about sql. Anyway I started the steps but i didnt get very far. I already sql installed so i didnt need to download it, I also found that the mysql user was already there as well. When I tried to do the..

Code:
mysql@Blah:~$ /etc/rc.d/rc.mysqld start
/bin/sh: /etc/rc.d/rc.mysqld: Permission denied
mysql@Blah:~$
so I'm kinda stuck.
