Slackware Enlightenment - Black Screen?
I've downloaded and installed Enlightenment for my system and I can't get it to work properly, and I am not sure where I should start.

When I configure Slackware to use Enlightenment and startx, I get a blank screen. Just black. At least under my account. When I try to run it as root, or any of the other family accounts on my system, it works just fine...

Where can I even start to look on how to fix this?

All the other window managers work fine. :/\

I had the same problem attempting with SBo packages. It did successfully install with a package built for getting E17 working on Slackware specifically though..

Ideas on Arch forum:

Working installer:

Also, there should be an e_crashdump hidden log file in your user directory which may help defining the actual cause of the problem.

I got it "working".

I don't think it crashed, it just didn't actually show anything on the screen. To get it working...

1 - Uninstalled old AMD Proprietary drivers.

2 - Installed newer AMD Proprietary drivers.

3 - uninstalled all enlightenment packages.

4 - downloaded and installed proper e17.5 packages for Slackware64 14.0.

It ran and did what it should, but it locks up randomly now. First time it was almost right away. I couldn't do anything. Keyboard still operated ok(caps lock light going on and off when I pressed the key) and the mouse continued to move, but I couldn't click on anything. The cursor would just glow blue for a moment.

So I rebooted, tried again. Got a couple of terminal windows opened, started my browser, then I was going through the menus into Games and about 2 levels down...everything stopped again. Keyboard and mouse worked, but there was no action when I clicked or did anything.

I have been using E17 for a while on Slackware --Current and quite like it. My CPU and video card, though, are Intel. It's a little temperamental at times, but highly configurable.

Have you looked in /var/log/messages and /var/log/Xorg.0.log?

Maybe they will provide some hints about what's going wrong.

In the Xorg log...more than half the log is this...then it shows I hit the power button to shutdown.

Nothing stands out in the messages...but I am still going through it.

Try my E18 packages here
You must uninstall all efl and enlightenment libraries first before building the packages

Thanks I will give these a shot!
I was not able to use your build (64bit system) but I did get the e18 build to work without any issues.

I believe this to be related to evas not being built with SVG support. I use E almost exclusively and the only solution I have found to fix this is to delete your .e folder located in your home directory. If you delete it and then try to start E again you are able to re-run the configuration and use it for that session. After that its just a black screen in subsequent sessions.

Also for those that are rebooting at the black screen, you can hit CTRL + ALT + BKSPACE to kill X and get back to a console

I have had no problems with lockups using the slacke17 (0.17.6) build. I installed it about two months ago on my Slackware 14.1 64 bit with an nvidia GeForce4-440Go card, using the nouveau driver and X version 1.14. I also have it using nm-applet in the systray, since connman was removed from 0.17.6. It's a nice alternative to XFCE. I did try to upgrade to e18 and then experienced the blank screens that everyone is mentioning. So I simply uninstalled and went back to e17. Really e18 doesn't bring anything new to the interface to your applications, and having connman available is still a poor substitue for nm-applet. I also don't use EFM or Terminology, but stick with Thunar and Xterm. They seem to start faster, and I'm looking for a network aware file manager.
