slackware dependencies ???
 

Guys,
I`m trying to install "Gaim" msger, i`m running slack, and it have a lot of dependencies, with slackware is there a quicker way to grab all the files instead of searching them out singlely ?????

i thought slackware already came with gaim.. try going into gnome.. gaim is there for sure!

Errr What dependencies? File names? A little more info would help.

i only have kde installed,

I think debian has something like Apt-get ? / is there a slackware eq ?

Try a search for Dropline Gnome. It will download and install Gnome 2. If you're using Slack 9.0 the packages are on the CD.

Actually, if you would reinstall Slack with the "FULL" option it would probably save a lot of time and trouble.

Why re-install?

Just mount the cd, and from there
as root do your
(just in case that not all gnome libs sit in the
gnome directory)

U could try compiling gaim 0.61 - compiled without a problem. The slackware 9 cd has the Gaim 0.6cvs version only.
Gaim 0.61 compiled perfectly - no dependencies... :D

As far as all those dependencies are concerned, are you trying to install off an rpm or something? Even without installing gnome on Slackware you should have most, if not all those libraries installed on your system.

Slackware includes the rpm system but because all the libraries weren't installed with it you can't use rpm to check dependencies. When you install new programs it is best to actually build them from source. I recommend just getting gaim out of the cvs tree and installing it. There are instructions at gaim.sourceforge.net. Click on the CVS button on the right hand side of the screen.

As allan614 said, u might have to install full, or at least also have that gnome package installed to come away from that dependencieslemes ..

I installed gaim 0.70 binary, it runs, but with minimal features.. and on the console I see many warning or errors reported, but now I know wut is going wrong, I've no kde, no gnome installed ..

have you considered precompile .tgz files?

If so, all you need is the proper libraries which can be found on cd or on ftp mirrors.

Yeah, I think so, but am abit to silly now to findout where those library reside, "grep <libname> path2-MANIFEST-file" will dig it out I bet ..

Just gonna point out, for stress less Desktop-Installation one might consider "full instalation" then just do a little comment-out those not needed services in ./etc/rc.d, /etc/{initab,inet..} rather than minimal/selected installation n experience few thing not worked ..

It is even worser if one don't know that the dependencieslemos is the cause for something not working. He/she will even think slack9.1 suck ..

Btw 3gb should be enough for the full Desktop-Installation, surely for installing slack for server purpose, minimal installation absolutely prefered, for easy maintaining n security reason .., isn't it so (peace ..) ?
