I've been lucky with swaret, but some haven't. I used it to upgrade from 10 to 10.1 with no problems.

just out of sheer curiosity

what is this "swaret"'

i have heard about at couple of places

It's a package manager for Slackware, with some dependency checking. Ceck it out at http://swaret.sourceforge.net. Some people have had problems, but I haven't since I used Slack 9.0.

Are you being sarcastic? I dunno, it just seems kinda funny someone with 3200 posts doesn't know what swaret is :P

masand 02-17-2005 12:20 AM

no i am not sarcastic

because this person with 3200 post is new to slackware
also because we do not have exposure to other LINUX os here, many of the students have not heard linux other than redhat or mandrake

so i have taken the initiative here to change this !!

Actually I thought you were being sarcastic as well. Anyway it's true that if you don't use a distro as your main one, you may never know all the features or apps available to you. I think globally most people associate Linux with Redhat, you even get people saying things like "I installed Linux 9" meaning that they installed Redhat 9.

I upgraded my Slackware 10 to 10.1-current using slackpkg, its very easy:

slackpkg upgrade slackware, to upgrade the /slackware main packages, and slackpkg upgrade extra to upgrade the extra packages
