It looks more like Kicker is causing the crash here.

Try deleting the configuration files for Kicker in ~/.kde

~/.kde/share/config/kicker (file)
~/.kde/share/apps/kicker (directory)
Kicker still crashes whenever I log-off under KDE. Here is what I did:
Code:
basel@darkstar:~$ mv .kde/share/config/kickerrc /home/basel/
BTW, there is not any directory for kicker under ~/.kde/share/apps/

as far as I know, kicker's crash is a KDE bug. They say if you remove the System menu from the panel, it should go away. I removed the system menu from the panel and the system icon from the desktop, and that did make the crashes less frequent...
KDE people said they will fix this issue with the next release. till then, I am just ignoring it.

I was having this same problem, except it did not crash Linux, it only reported a crash for "kicker". I found a work around for the problem. It has something to do with the optional menus for the panel. To prevent the problem, I had to turn off all the optional menu items for the panel.

To do that click the right mouse button on the panel. Click on "Panel Menu" and then "Configure Panel". Select "Layout" in the list on the left, and then click on the "Menus" tab. In the list of "Optional Menus" on the right, uncheck all the items.

This appears to be some kind of KDE bug, where it isn't correctly freeing memory associated with the optional menu items. That's about as far as I was able to get investigating the problem.
