Slackware.com solutions for users.
 

Hi,

Loads of members new & old are worried about the 'Slackware.com' server being down all the time. See: www.slackware.com Website Down?
Until 'PV' decides on what is to be done there are alternatives for Slackers.
Personally I use http://slackware.oregonstate.edu/, slackware64-13.37/ for ChangeLog.txt & patches/

AlphaGeek's Unofficial Mirror List & AlienBase are two very reliable resources. Plus AlienBase can provide those historical versions like slackware-1.01/ for users with nothing else to do. :)

So guys & gals let us use the alternative resources for our Slackware needs instead of complaining about something we can not control.

If and when PV makes the necessary changes to provide a reliable server for 'slackware.com' the resources are there that will allow you to download ISO or patches and even to check the 'changelog'. 'slackware.com' was without a web site for a long time and now that the server hardware is getting long in the tooth, we should not worry or speculate.

Good idea. Otherwise, the issue will keep recurring in new posts. Mind you, I think we've already discussed a general problem consisting in the fact that people who SHOULD read sticky threads, don't usually do it.

Right, but it is easier to point them to a sticky thread instead of searching for this thread first or explain it over and over again.

Thank you very much for what you have done by posting the links to download. I've been using 13.0 for a good number of years but now I need to reinstall it as it's been crushed so I thought to install latest version but discovered that the site was down and no dvd iso was there but got your posted links and now the download is underway and I must say all have just been possible by virtue of your excellent job :)).

I was very depressed by the thought that the time had come to bid slack goodbye and install another distro.

I mentioned this in the other thread but I'll repeat it here as it seems more appropriate. In addition to the links onebuck posted, slackpkg already has a full list of mirrors for many countries in its config files.

New users, who don't yet have Slackware/Slackpkg installed, can extract the list from the package as follows:

Many of us simply maintain our own mirrors using or adapting the scripts from HERE or HERE. The latter is really a good script for rolling your own custom script while the former is great for mirroring and creating CDs/DVDs by simply tuning the script via a config file (Pretty kewl eh?) to produce mirrors or ISOs for your particular needs. Eric explains the usage of his script HERE.

In my Cloud/VPS hosting services, my clients always have access to spin up their servers from the latest -current versions of Slackware and Slackware64 too. I find that there are simply too many people that install the latest 'stable' version, only to immediately turn right around and slackpkg themselves into -current, so I like to make it easy by accommodating them from the start.
