That is the 6 month running average and it has been at 22 for six days, counting today. The six month running average is the default when you first view the site. At the top of the box, in the right panel, is a smaller box labeled, "data span," where you can change to the time span you are interested in and then click on "Go."
At the moment Slackware is at 15th place for the 7 day running average.
Distrowatch offers the following disclaimer,
Quote:
...The DistroWatch Page Hit Ranking statistics are a light-hearted way of measuring the popularity of Linux distributions and other free operating systems among the visitors of this website. They correlate neither to usage nor to quality and should not be used to measure the market share of distributions. They simply show the number of times a distribution page on DistroWatch.com was accessed each day, nothing more....
Many people speak disparagingly about Distrowatch.com, especially in this forum, however, I find new packages are reported there, in the left panel, before they are, usually, reported anywhere else, including the package creator's website.
Yes, one should take the high road and not try and stuff the ballot box, but Slackware gets so little PR to the point some people think it is no longer an active distribtution... so every little bit helps.

Agreed. I'd say that most of my DW page hits are for distros that I'll probably never install here. One of the distros I run is Arch, and I don't think I've looked at Arch's DW page in over two years. Probably the same sort of thing for most Slackware users, I bet.
From Distrowatch:
"This was prompted by a continuous abuse of the counters by a handful of undisciplined individuals who had confused DistroWatch with a poll station. The counters are no longer displayed on the individual distributions pages, but all visits are logged. Only one hit per IP address per day is counted.

OMG, all these years I never noticed the list to the left.
I have to say I am completely against such shenanigans which can reflect badly (and undeservedly) on the Integrity that Slackware has earned. Shame Shame.

So, to "stuff the ballot box" some "well meaning" soul would really have to go out of their way to do so. I've never been able to view Distrowatch.com when running in Tor, so I would think it would not be worth the trouble to even try to "vote" repeatedly.
