Taking a look at Slackware again - couldn't ever get it to install on hardware back in the 90s, so I'm taking another look via Virtualbox. I'm really fed up with other distros endless glitches...

HOWEVER

When I try to add the "guest additions" in Vbox with Slackware as guest,
I'm told Slackware can't mount the guest additions "iso" in "usr/share/virtualbox". Can't find the iso no matter what I try.

It most definitely is in there.
What is wrong here?

If you built the VirtualBox package from slackbuilds.org then the ISO image will be available on the host system but not the guest.

The default Slackware does not contain any VirtualBox files.

Recent new kernels contain support for vboxdrv and vboxvideo but not vboxshare.

If you are using a recent kernel and do not need vboxshare then there is nothing to install in the Slackware guest.

Use the VirtualBox GUI to insert the ISO image. Then in the Slackware VM manually mount the ISO image. From there run the dot run script.

There also is a GA package at slackbuilds.org.

I did this just last night.

Login as root. startx

At the bottom of the Devices menu of VirtualBox is Insert Guest Additions CD image...
Select that.

A ghosted CD icon will appear on your desktop. click on it to mount it.
Once it is mounted it won't appear ghosted anymore.

I opened a terminal window and issued the 'mount' command to see where the CD image was mounted.
I then cd into the CD and execute ./autorun.sh

It will take a few minutes to set up the additions. You'll then have to restart Slackware for the Additions to be loaded on startup.
