slackware and grub?
 

I have been using linux for about 3 months I think and so a veritable beginner. However, I am impatient to get Slackware installed as it seems from reading the threads that it is perhaps a good way to learn.

I have xp on primary master hd and Mepis on a primary slave hd utilising Grub. Would somebody be kind enough to advise whether I should install Lilo to the root partition and edit the Grub file accordingly or should I leave Lilo out altogether. I am just about familiar with Grub at a very basic level but clueless regarding Lilo. (I am planning to install Slack on the primary slave alongside Mepis).....Thanks !

grub and lilo do basically the same thing, so you don't need both, you can edit either to boot your other os's on your pc by editing the /boot/grub/menu.lst file...

i've never had much luck with lilo, and nothing but success with grub...i'd say stick with grub :)

I want to do much the same thing as quaylet. I am currently running a single 80 GB hd dual booting Suse and
XP. Grub is used as the bootloader.
An old posting on another forum also suggested adding Slackware to /boot/grub/menu.lst ,but I'm not sure
how to do this (newbie here).
My plan is this:
1) Partition some of the 38 GB of free disk on the current Suse share of hd (haven't decided on tool)
2) Reformat this space to something other than ReiserFS (expect install cd will handle this)
3) Install slackware from the iso's without bootloader
4) Add slackware to Grub
Don't see the flaw in this scheme which only makes me more sure there is one :-)
Any helpful suggestions or directions to a relevant tutorial much appreciated. I feel like jumping into the deep
end of the pool without my waterwings. Great fun !

The scheme looks flawless to me...have fun ;). I wrote up a tutorial since I had my experiences with grub and I learnt from them. Here' the link to my tutorial.
