Question Slackware and GNOME 3.10 nv driver... is this possible?

Hey GNOME users...
I have dropline 3.10 installed and am going through the motions of getting all the littlle buggys working. I was wondering, is it possible to use dropline GNOME with the nv driver?

The nvidia driver taints the kernel and makes software compiling damn near impossible to the point where I am ready to uninstall the nvidia driver and use the stock nv one. No, I will not use nouveau. Thoughts?

I believe you need something with 3D hardware acceleration, see wiki.gnome.org

Does nv have 3D acceleration ? I do not think it does, but who knows what have chaneged over the years.

The NVIDIA OEM driver shouldn't be affecting the compiler.

The nv driver was replaced by nouveau also.

Before making a decision you could consider reading this.

As ReapeX7 said, nouveau (though not developed by NVIDIA) somehow replaces nv. Nouveau has its limitations regarding hardware acceleration and power management, but nv is probably no better.

Me, I recently switched from nouveau to a proprietary NVIDIA driver (aka the blob), mainly to help avoid overheating of my old but faithful laptop as I don't care for hardware acceleration. I had to reinstall mesa afterwards to get back some library, no big deal.

If all else fails you can also fall back to the generic vesa driver or even fbdev but then, forget the bells and whistles (and in the latter case you'll need an xorg.conf file IIRC).

Angry Thanks...

Thanks for your replies, I was pretty sure GNOME needed 3D acceleration.
