slackware and framebuffer

I'm newbie. I've got problem with framebuffer on Slackware 10 (kernel 2.4.26) my grapgic card is on boar.. it's intel 810E..you know - my console tells me that it doesn't know the mode i'm giving in lilo.conf.. ex vga=773... i've got no problems when i installed it on other computers with for example nvidia geforce.. but here i don't know what to do. please help

well, i don't have that chip in a pc, but to start, you could put in " vga=normal ".
( and rerun " lilo " )
then take a look at the kernelconfig to see if there's a fb-driver for your chip,
and compile that into your kernel.

vga=normal : that should work on any graph. chip to display the startup messages
and the bootprompt. ( just the textscreen ).

did you rerun " #lilo" ( as root ) ?
do you know what the messages were ?

and what error messages do you get now? ( or just nothing ? )

you can also thake a look in the HCL :
http://www.linuxquestions.org/hcl/sh...hp?product=326

but first get the textscreen working....

Maybe vga=ask will prompt you with the available modes (not sure though).

Have you recently recompiled the kernel? If so, did you choose the FB and graphics chipset support as Modules, or compiled in? If they're modules, you'll likely get a black screen at bootup, because the kernel can't support the graphics mode. Also, make sure that in addition to your graphics drivers in kernel, you're also including VESA framebuffer support, because theoretically, every graphics card on the market has 100% support for VESA.

It's also entirely possible that the 810E actually doesn't support that graphics mode. Try VGA=788 for 800x600x64k, or VGA=791 for 1024x768x64k, or 785 for 640x480x64k. Pretty much every monitor that was built in the last 5 years will support all of those modes, even if the refresh rate is poopy.
