Slackware 9.2 CD 2
 

hi all. Do I need the 2nd CD to install Slackware 9.1. If not, what is on it (so I can decide if it`s worth the download time).

Also, I`m new to Slackware having previously used Mandrake, SuSe and Red Hat. Is there anything majorly different about slackware form the above mentioned that I need to know or are important in me beaing able to do anything?

It contains the /extra, the /kde and the /gnome
files ... so, if you want older extras, KDE or Gnome,
you can download the second image, or grab
the tgz for what you want individually if a second
image is too much hassle.

That will save me about 12 hours of downloading :)

So I suppose that if I want to install Slackware, I only need to download the first image. After installation, I don't have x-windows at this stage, right?
So now I assume that I can download the latest version of gnome( I am going to use this as my desktop), and I can install it from console(only can be done in console since I don't have X at the moment, right).

The question is how can I download the latest version of gnome? I don't even know how to set up my adsl modem in console. The solution I can think of is that I download it from another os, say windows xp, and then burn it to the CD, and startup the linux, mount the CD, and install it.

Any other good suggestion? Thanks for help.

it's not that bad. if you prefer to avoid downloading the second cd, you'll find several window managers on cd1 to start with. you can use one of those and install gnome from there. you can also try dropline gnome (an optimized version for slackware). i've seen a lot of good coments around but i have never tryied it myself.
