Slackware > 9.1

How long do you guys think it will be until the next version of Slackware is released with the 2.6 kernel?

You can already install it. Just download and compile it. And if you really want a preconfigured one you'll just have to wait. It's up to Patrick(Slackware Maintainer). You can email him and ask when he plans to add it. Just guessing but im sure he hasn't really considered it yet.

Well, I did compile it once and it compiled fine and booted ok but there were problems with things not starting properly. I got a bunch of module errors and audio errors etc.

That's because for some reason 2.6 doesn't load modules like 2.4

Open up /etc/rc.d/rc.local with your favorite text editor.
Add these:
modprobe audio_module
modprobe network_module
modprobe whatever_module

And you should be fine. You'll have to do a little dhcpcd at the command line or add it to /etc/rc.d/rc.local

And there you go.
It's a work around, but it works.
