Slackware 9.0 rc1
for all you SLACK junkies (like myself) there has been an official release today Slackware 9.0 rc1. you can fetch it off the ftp.slackware.com but far warning, it's being hammered pretty hard :)
"The first release candidate for the upcoming Slackware 9.0 is ready for testing on ftp.slackware.com. Some of the main components included are the 2.4.20 Linux kernel, KDE 3.1, GNOME 2.2, and XFree86 4.3.0, as well as gcc-3.2.2 and the latest development libraries. Enjoy!" |
Tsk tsk tsk :)
People use (used to use) Slack because it's kind of "entish" ;) No haste, no rush for all the newest things and Gimmicks... Going after an rc1 is very un-"entish" ;) Cheers, Tink |
Moved to Slackware forum where its more suitable and where we already have a thread regarding the release of Slack 9.0 rc1

well, to be honest I run plain jane 8.1. the only portion I updated was a few libs do install a few programs. I am new to linux and I started with Slack from the beginning. it's been an interesting ride but what what I have seen I am hooked. :) hopefullyI will become more knowing of the linux ways.. but for sure I am converted :)
P.S. I swear I thought I was the only one tricky :) |
I think I will end up waiting for 9.0 final to be released and then if it suddenly appears on my lap I will take it for a spin on an extra hard drive, then maybe if I think it is worth upgrading, then maybe I will.

u c now i dont think i will be upgrading, i updated my X system and gnome system my puter has never been as stable before and as fast (i woz using SuSE) and now since i got everything working, USB, Sound, GNOME 2.2, NVidia Drivers 2.4.20 Kernel i dont see the point in upgrading as my usual phrase goes "if it aint broke dont fix it"
just my 2 pence :D  |
Darn, I'm always behind on the latest things I just got back from a little vacation from the computer ;] And i'm bound to hear a beta version of slack 9.0 is out.. wait is it a beta?? that's what i saw on the site ;x

I'm not upgrading until someone says the new glibc is bulletproof :)
|
I installed rc1 yesterday, havn't had a lot of time to play with it yet but the nvidia driver installed fine.
|
I didn't install rc1 per say...but I did upgrade all of my packages, so basically, I am now running rc1 (well almost...it seems as though there are 21 newer packages since last night including glibc 2.3.1). I haven't had any issues except for there being no drivers for the Radeon 9700 Pro for xfree4.3. So far so good.
