Well I dunno about installing one intended for another distro.
But that package I mentioned is a version intended specifically for slackware. It's just not an official ximian thing because they don't support slackware. I have it running right now and it's great.
That package is easily installed with 'installpkg' in slack (once you have the right libraries of course).
I checked the slackware site and rc1 comes with gnome 2.2 so I think you'll need to install the old gnome 1.4 libraries to get evolution working (for any copy you may download). This is a list I got from the dropline forums (dropline gnome is gnome tailored for slackware...if you like gnome it's a kewl thing!). The maintainer says these should do the trick:
bonobo-1.0.20-i386-1.tgz
bonobo-conf-0.14-i386-1.tgz
gal-0.19.2-i386-1.tgz
gal-0.21-i386-1.tgz (from
www.sf.net/projects/dropline-gnome)
gconf-1.0.9-i386-1.tgz
gnome-libs-1.4.1.7-i386-1.tgz
gnome-print-0.36-i386-1.tgz
gnome-vfs-1.0.5-i386-2.tgz
imlib-1.9.14-i386-1.tgz
libghttp-1.0.9-i386-1.tgz
libglade-0.17-i386-1.tgz
libole2-0.2.4-i386-1.tgz
libxml-1.8.17-i386-1.tgz (Slackware's "l" directory")
oaf-0.6.10-i386-1.tgz
(I guess you can grab these from
www.linuxpackages.net)
To run evolution 1.2 you'll also need these:
gdk-pixbuf 0.19.0
gtkhtml 1.1.6
soup 0.7.4
I really recommend you grab the slack package, that should work fine.
Hope this helps.
