Slackware 9.0 ISO labeled wrong?
 

Hello to all again.

I decided to get back into the Linux world again by buying a new hard drive and putting the new version of Slack on there to play with. I downloaded the Slack 9.0 ISO from one of the mirror sites listed at www.slackware.com, and burnt it as an image to a CD. I verified that the image file said "slackware9.0" in the name. However, when I boot from the CD, I get a welcome message saying "Welcome to Slackware 8.1" ... Is this something that they forgot to change in Slack 9.0 or did the mirror site accidentally rename the slack 8.1 image to 9.0 or something like that happen? Has anyone else seen this with Slack 9.0? I'd hate to redownload it :)

If your CD has the file ANNOUNCE.8_1 rather
than ANNOUNCE.9_0 in the CD's root you
grabbed the wrong ISO...
if you have the latter it's probably just a
script that's not properly modified ;)

Yay... wrong ISO! :)

Oh well, back to downloading, what mirror would you suggest using (as far as speed, reliability, and not giving me the wrong version lol)?

Also, I know I used some checksum program before to verify 8.1... but I can't figure out how I did it now that I want 9.0. If I don't have Linux running already with a cksum command or whatever they want... isn't there some windows utility that gives you the checksum values to make sure you have the whole image?

Yesterday I downloaded the ISO from ftp://ftp.cerias.purdue.edu/pub/os/s...kware-9.0-iso. I was doing other stuff at the time I know it took a while to d/l (few hours) but ie doesn't show the kb/s when copying from an ftp, so im not sure what the kb/s was. I can verify that it is slackware 9 though.

Not much help to you, I guess, but I've been using
ftp://mirror.aarnet.edu.au ;) very succesfully in the
past, all my Slack ISO's came from there, and they
were always the right ones :)

While I was on dial-up I got an average 5.4 K/s ;)
With cable (256KBit/s) it's ~31K/s... the server
allows 34/100 MBit/s (34 intl, 100 Oz, I think)

I average about 600Kbit/s from aarnet, and about the same from planetmirror, but my isp has a free (free as in not counted against your data transfer allowance - a measly 3gb a month :-(, file mirror, but they take requests which are usually filled within 24 hours....and that gives me a slackware iso in about 15min.

/me is practicing not to be envious RIGHT now :)
