Slackware 8.1.01-stable iso
1. says there has been a fixup to the 8.1 release
is there a new iso image for it?
if yes, will the mirrors refresh to the new iso image?

2. for slackware 8.0, there were three iso files: install, source and contrib. for 8.1, the mirrors only have the install image. does anyone know if has the other two images?

All you need to install is hte slackware-install iso. The only slackware distro packages not included are the kde international packages which you can download and install afterwards. You can also download the source from the ftp. You can easily build your own iso's at that point. (man mkisofs)

Most mirros have the iso by now btw.

I just checked where I downloaded my ISO from and it is reporting a time stamp of 2002.6.18. That would be the first 8.1 release. I checked for the Apache package in my ISO image I downloaded on the 21st and it is version 1.3.24. The changelog reports 1.3.26 for 8.1.01 released on 2002.6.19. So that mirror site hasn't updated as yet to the second release. For most of us though the changes would be really minor. The updates could be downloaded separately and applied with pkgtool easy enough if they were needed. But for Slack it would be important though before pressing many thousands of CD Sets, especially since the Apache update was a security issue.

They will probably post the other iso images much later on. Currently, with the mirror sites and all of us downloading the single image their bandwidth and server resources are really being pushed to the limit. I haven't been able to get in to a slackware server for over two weeks. In fact, I am just going to wait until the boxed set arrives.

has the right slackware images available and a readme as to what the juggle is all about. Of course, downloading from sourceforge is slow as Christmas, so best to wait until you find a local mirror that isn't bogged down.

For those of you with a fresh slack 8.1 who would like to have 8.1.01 with out having to download the iso again, have a look at Autopkg. I installed it yesterday and It works a treat. Make sure you set it to use a local/fast mirror and your set to stay up to date. I've got it running as a weekly cron job.

Your welcome tundra :)
And if you are using KDE you can check the spelling of any word by opening a command prompt <Alt>+<F2> typing "dict:supercilious" and hit <Enter>.

tundra 06-27-2002 11:30 AM

that sounds as cool as being supercilious about slackware. ;)
