Slackware 64 -current / KDE 4.2.4 / lost compositing.
Today I upgraded some packages by means of the usual 'slackpkg upgrade-all' which included an upgrade of Xorg, mesa, and my Intel graphics card driver.
After restarting X and logging into KDE, I no longer have compositing on my desktop, e.g. no transparency, when previously all was well. Is this a problem on my end or can anyone report having a similar experience? Thanks. |
I don't know if it's relevant but:
There's new drivers in /extra for intel ftp://slackware.mirrors.tds.net/pub/.../ChangeLog.txt |
Thanks for the suggestion but that did not have any affect.
Here is the full list of all packages I upgraded from: Code:
dri2proto-2.0-x86_64-1-upgraded-2009-07-17,12:00:50 I don't suppose there is any way to revert, is there? |
I just switched compositing type to xrender when it had been on opengl, compositing is now working again, but at a much slower speed

It seems that OpenGL is borked here too with the latests upgrades...
Running glxgears gives me a black window (I already tried with all the intel drivers in extra... including 7.99.902 --I setup modesetting just to try it). Downgrading to mesa-7.4.1 fixed my OpenGL problems :) |
There have been a number of problems with KDE since the last but one update to current, this might in some way be related, but then again ....
Anyway try downgrading pixman to the previous version 15.10 I think. samac |
I'm in the same situation...I mean, after upgraded slackware-current since:
Code:

Code:
+--------------------------+ |
How old was the version of current that you upgraded? As if it was before this update

Already done... :) My slackware is clean ;) My slackware has the latest updates and I removed those packages months ago...
to botnet: You didn't upgrade your intel drivers because they're in extra/ and upgrade-all doesn't install extra/ stuff. :) |
Today's update and the included downgrade of Pixman still leaves me with broken OpenGL, but I will try downgrading Mesa, although, OpenGL compositing was still working properly after the previous Mesa update on the 16th, it was only the update on the 17th that caused problems.
Samac, I actually installed this system pretty recently from the 13-rc1 weekly dvd build metrofox, I upgraded intel drivers manually, and also tried the 2.6.3 version in /extra with no change. I will take theoffset's suggestion and see if I can find mesa-7.4.1 around somewhere. Thanks. |
I have this problem as well and I've tried mesa-7.4.1 with no luck.

vinegaroon: Have you upgraded pixman? :)
|
I have restored compositing. I downgraded mesa as well as pixman, dri2proto, inputproto, libFS, libXaw, libXt, and xorg-server to the versions form before the 17th. Likely not all of those packages needed to be changed, but rather than restart X after each, I just downgraded all of them, and now all is back to normal.
