How do I download drivers for my modem? I can't connect to the internet.
I have the cd with the drivers on it...but when I try to run it, Nautilus appears and says it can't read it. |
modem driver
There is a very good chance that slackware(or are u using redhat?) already has your modem driver installed as part of the package. Find out what the name of your driver is and see if it's in your modules directory. If it is, you can try modprobe 'drivername' or edit your rc.modules and reboot. I don't know why u can't just mount your cd-rom and copy the linux driver to your modules directory though???? Either way, the driver has to be located in your modules directory and exist in your rc.modules file so that when u boot up u can access the internet. Configure PPP after u have this done.

But you should be able to mount the cdrom with the mount command and install the drivers that you downloaded that way onto your system. Don't use nautilus to try and open the cd, that usually won't work and you usually just can't double click the file to open and install, Linux ain't Windows. ;) What type of file is it that you downloaded ? Search the forums here on installing and you should come up with tons of ways to install on Linux. |
