Between runinit (did you mean run-it?) and encryption all my comments are likely invalid. Frankly I'd have to install a basic, parallel install or use Liveslak to suss this out. It is possible geninitrd might solve it, but I'm in unfamiliar territory with this complex diversion from my norm which doesn't include runit, encryption, or initrd (past the first boot). Sorry. I wish I could help. Good Luck.

Yes, thanks.

As for your other suggestion of geninitrd, I'll try it as soon as possible.

What I haven't seen in the thread : the boot/EFI partition might not have been mounted when kernel was upgraded.
Grub could be borked, try to edit the launch option using e at the menu. If initrd isn't suitable, try generating on with same kernel (via chroot ? With config file and -F option to be sure ?).

/boot was mounted, my mkinitrd.sh outputs in /boot and I can see changes after successive reboots.

What options should I inserted there?

What do you mean? Re-running mkinitrd? I've tried with -F and config file on both older and newer kernel, no luck.

I would prefer to see what's in there first. And not sure now wether you have grub or lilo...

Yes, that's what I meant.

If it's not a typo issue I think we're almost left with hardware failing (can't be bug if it once worked).

After trying every suggestion I gave up and reinstalled Slackware.
Running the setup again from the DVD without changing any partition and without formatting resulted in a working system.

So I don't know what the problem was, but the system is working so I guess I'm ok with this.

Thank you all for your support!
