Question Slackware 14.x hal is gone - Some streaming video services no longer work

I was recently trying to play a movie on Amazon Prime Instant Video and kept getting an error that the player could not update. I did a little digging on the web and found out that a common work around is to use hal. I had no problem playing videos from Amazon before I upgraded to 14.1. Looking at the source for 14.0 and 14.1 it seems that hal was removed. Anyone know why, or how to work around this to play protected streaming videos from sites like Amazon?

HAL is still in the 13.37 distribution, and can be installed against 14.0 or later distributions of Slackware.

Either here: http://mirrors.slackware.com/slackwa...slackware64/l/

or here: http://mirrors.slackware.com/slackwa...7/slackware/l/

Install both the hal-0.5.14 and hal-info-20091130 packages.

Check out this thread here: http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...-a-4175486435/

You can install package for hal and hal-info from 13.37. You just need to make sure you grab the correct packages for your setup... 32bit vs 64bit.

Thanks for the tips. I installed the older packages and started hald, but I still could not stream Amazon Instant Videos. The error stated that I needed to update my flash player. Some quick research revealed that I had to also clear the adobe cache files.

To clear the adobe cache:
Code:
$ cd ~/.adobe/Flash_Player/
$ rm -rf APSPrivateData2 AssetCache NativeCache
After doing this, I am able to stream videos again.
