Slackware 14. problem with alien.

I am just having a bit of a difficulty trying to install:

alien-8.85i486-1sl.txz. I have installed Perl, which is its dependency, which went ok but when I pkgtool'd alien I just got this when I tried to run it.

bash-4.2# alien
Can't locate Alien/Package/Deb.pm in @INC (@INC contains: /usr/local/lib/perl5 /usr/local/share/perl5 /usr/lib/perl5/vendor_perl /usr/share/perl5/vendor_perl /usr/lib/perl5 /usr/share/perl5 .) at /usr/bin/alien line 291.
BEGIN failed--compilation aborted at /usr/bin/alien line 291.
bash-4.2#

Could anyone help?

Welcome to LQ.

On what Slackware version are you trying to install it? This package seems intended for Slackware 13.37, as in repository or slacky.eu there is none for Slackware 14.0, let alone Slackware 14.1.

Maybe try to rebuild it yourself, using the sources for version 8.90, recently released.

Alien is a tool to allow you to convert packages between formats. Presumably you want it to convert some deb or rpm to Slackware format. If that is true I would advise you do not use alien, IMHO it is not very good at what it claims to do. Rather I would suggest you use src2pkg or if you like one of us can perhaps help you with a SlackBuild to create the package you ultimately desire.
