Slackware 14 beta

Hi,

Howdy! Lots of shiny stuff here, including the long awaited Xfce 4.10!
Thanks to Robby Workman for the initial set of build scripts, and lots
of testing (plus some very helpful notes about things such as the proper
build order). I'm calling this a beta (finally!), and it's really very
close to what we expect to release. Test away.
BTW, Mercury leaves retrograde on August 8th, position 01:26 Leo. ;-)

We are getting there! So let the testing continue.

XFCE 4.10!
great!!!

I just noticed that two packages install the same executables in a Slackware system.
Both sharutils and gmime install /usr/bin/{uuencode,uudecode} files.
Also sharutils seems to actually install 2 /usr/bin/uuencode files.

Great news! More and more Gnome dependencies. Is Pat working on his own interface based on Gnome Shell? Just kidding.

Great stuff. I'm going to leave the walls of my tiling world and take XFCE 4.10 for a spin.

That's what I've been doing, but I miss my dwm environment already. I think I'll be going back soon. I keep looking at all these shiny graphical desktop elements that are on my screen and thinking; "I really don't have a use for any of these". ;)

... Well, ok, being able to mount usb flashdrives from thunar's side pane is handy, but that's about all.

I guess, it's very similar to the saying: Once you Slack, you never (or more realistically: rarely) go back.
Once you've become comfortable with one of the tiling WMs, it's really hard to go back to a standard environment.

When it comes to Thunar, Whenever I use any pendrives or external HDs I use it with i3wm anyway.

Yep, that's what I do too, I just need to see how well it's going to work on the new one with all that gio/gvfs gnome malarkey. But, that's a job for tomorrow.

Awesome update to -current and really enjoying Xfce 4.10. Thanks, Robby, for your hard work in bringing that together and thanks to Pat and the rest of the team for making this a really solid 14-beta. Good times, good times.

Are we there yet?

GazL 07-24-2012 08:11 AM

Considering it's the day after the first beta release, this forum is very quiet.

Hi,

Member activity is low across LQ. Vacations, heat and busy summer work takes it's toll on everyone. I am surprised that southern hemisphere activity is also low.

As to the Slackware forum, everyone is testing! :)
