We should reply to those comments that the package management in other distros is "bloated". (Which is true.) Fight a derpy meme with a derpy meme... it'll blow the circuit breakers in their tiny phoronic minds.
When I saw that first "Why would anyone even use Slackware these days?" post, I got this mental image of Lord Flashheart bursting through the door and proclaiming "Why wouldn't I!" *pelvic thrust* "WOOF!!!"
I'm not sure what that says about me! Possibly, that I watched too much Blackadder as a kid!
I was basically turned off by this. "First off, Slackware 14.2 has finally begun..." and that first post in that thread. See no point in registering to post. It would be like preaching to the choir.
Although I heavily disagree with Patrick on one key issue...
Slackware has ALWAYS been a relevant modern distribution. We don't have all the bullshit baggage.
It's a soft-spoken ironic nod to Lennart Poettering, who stated in one of his interviews that "BSD is not relevant" and that Slackware is "stuck in the 1990s" or something like that. I don't remember the exact words he used, but you get the idea.

Folks posting stuff like this initial forum message on Phoronix often have usernames like "warlordz", "nemesis" or "hail666", which makes me picture them as twelve year olds in their parents' basement. My immediate reaction is something coming close to ad banner blindness. My own mental plonk plugin activates itself and makes me move along without wasting my time.
I didn't expect this flow of negative comments about negative comments...
I suggest that this flow be redirected to the Comments section of the Phoronix article, as few people need to be convinced that Slackware is great in this forum.
Maybe I should have anticipated what happened and refrained from posting the link, sorry for this lack of realism.

Yeah and look what ended up being not-so-relevant? As far as anything being stuck, the thing stuck in that argument was a well placed cranium up a nondescript backside.
Slackware has really never needed to prove anything except the fact simplicity and doing things the right way without a bunch of nonsensical idiocies pushes quality, not quantity.

Or better yet, just curtailed: lest we get negative comments about negative comments about negative comments about...
Personally, I just wanted to share a mental image I got that I thought was comical, but perhaps it wasn't.
Oh well... I'm in with the out-crowd, or is it out with the in-crowd... I get confused.
Hi David, your remark reminds me "Gulliver's Travels" and also "Et l'homme créa les dieux" from Pascal Boyer.
The latter has been translated (or adapted? I didn't read this version so I can't tell) to English under the title "Religion Explained: The Evolutionary Origins of Religious Thought".
