I recenly switched from Slackware 14.1 (64 bit) to Slackware 14.2 (64 bit), and in Slackware 14.1 (64 bit) I was able to get to the point where i could watch DVDs via xine, but since I have switched to Slackware 14.2 (64 bit) and try to do the same thing, I keep getting the following errors (as seen in the attachment, and yes, I have libdvdcss installed, as well as having access for the DVD player set up.

Did you make sure to install the needed libraries for DVD Video?

Slackware does not support encrypted DVD playback out-of-the-box.

Try open that video with other player, like mplayer (included in slackware) or vlc (easely available from certain repositories).

I doubt that it's a problem with the video player. If you would have read my original post, I clearly stated what the situation is.

If you're not willing to even try something as simple as Einars suggestion, why should anyone else offer one?

I just tested it and I have the same problem, however I don't use xine. I will look into a fix, but do what Einars suggested. Both VLC and MPlayer work fine.

I know that VLC and MPlayer show videos on my hard drive without any problem, it's when I try to watch DVDs that the problem starts .

Ok I get that you can't watch DVD's with xine, but are you now saying you cant watch DVD's with MPlayer and VLC also?

Good question, but how old is the DVD drive?

If you can't watch any DVDs with any of the included Media players, especially MPlayer, it might be anything from a permissions issue for a user account, to a bad DVD drive, to a missing decoder library such as mpeg2 for example. Usually its one of those three, so always check the user account permissions first.

I too had some serious problems with slackware 14.2 and libdvdcss 1.4.0 as suggested by slackbuilds.org.

As far as I could tell permissions were ok, but xine even refused to play from an undecoded directory with a DVD-filesystem created by dvdauthor, though this had global read- and write permissions (I was quite desperate at this point). VLC build from AlienBobs slackbuild worked.

After reading this post https://mailman.videolan.org/piperma...il/001641.html I downgraded to libdvdcss 1.2.13, as suggested for slackware 14.1 and after that, xine worked out of the box as expected without changing anything else.

Afterwards, I tried a few other versions of libdvdcss and version 1.3.0 is the last one that "worked" for me. The curious thing is, version 1.3.99 which is used in AlienBobs slackbuild for vlc doesn't seem to work with xine for me. As mentioned before, vlc did work. Now I really like to know, what makes my system (and maybe the one of TheNutCase) so special.

Well I downgraded to libdvdcss-1.2.13 to see if that would fix xine on my system and it also worked. I don't use xine for DVD playback so its kind of a non-issue but I too can confirm this fix seems to work for xine. Thanks joghi.
