Something you may want to try, if you haven't, is remove (or rename)
/etc/X11/xorg.conf; it hasn't been needed for a couple or three releases. Also, get and apply the Xorg patches (and all the other patches too) if you haven't already done so.
You're running 14.1 which does not need
xorg.conf (there is a file,
xorg.conf-vesa in the directory but I don't believe it's actually used). Rename
Xorg.conf to
Xorg.conf.bak or something. Do this in console then
startx. Might even need to reboot but I don't think so.
My systems (a couple of Dell Dimension 8400s and a couple of Dell Optiplex 780s) all have Intel graphics chips, the Optiplex:
Code:
00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation 4 Series Chipset Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 03)
00:02.1 Display controller: Intel Corporation 4 Series Chipset Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 03)
and work just fine (the display is an H-P 20-odd inch LED, sharp as a tack).
Changing the BIOS setting for graphic memory most likely did the trick.
Can't hurt, might help.
Hope this helps some.
