Slackware 14.1 is released

Many thanks and congratulations to Pat and the team...

After over a year of development (including the beta release and several release candidates to get everything polished up) we're proud to announce the availability of the new stable release. You'll find updates throughout the system, with the latest compilers and development tools, and recent versions of applications, window managers, desktop environments, and utilities. The Linux kernel is updated to version 3.10.17 (part of the 3.10.x kernel series that will be getting long-term support from the kernel developers). The x86_64 version of Slackware also adds support for installing and booting on systems running UEFI firmware.

For additional information, see the official announcement and the release notes. For a complete list of included packages, see the package list.

Build scripts for all kinds of additional software for Slackware 14.1 can be found on the slackbuilds.org website.

Need help? Check out our documentation site, docs.slackware.com. Stop by and share your knowledge!

Please consider supporting the Slackware project by picking up a copy of the Slackware 14.1 release from the Slackware Store. The discs are off to replication, but we're accepting pre-orders for the official 6 CD set and the DVD. The CD set is the 32-bit x86 release, while the DVD is a dual-sided disc with the 32-bit x86 release on one side and the 64-bit x86_64 release on the other. Thanks to our subscribers and supporters for keeping Slackware going all these years.

Thanks to the Slackware team for all the hard work getting 14.1 ready for action! And of course, thanks to all the open source developers upstream, and to the Slackware community on linuxquestions.org for all the help with bug reports, suggestions, and patches. We couldn't have done it without you.

Enjoy the new stable release!

Pat and the Slackware crew

Awesome, thank you Patrick and team.

dugan 11-07-2013 04:56 PM

It's great to see SlackDocs (a site that I've never visited and probably should visit) get a shout out on the official homepage.

gegechris99 11-07-2013 04:56 PM

Merci beaucoup.

Thank you very much to all of you for the great work.

Due to the shipping costs for France (15.95$), I will not buy any stuff in Slackware Store. Instead I just made a small donation.

allend 11-07-2013 05:08 PM

My grateful thanks to all involved. I have been very happy with Slackware-current and the 14.1 release will be another sparkling gem in the Slackware crown.

PS- Nice to see my prediction fulfilled ;) http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...ml#post4911786

Jeebizz 11-07-2013 05:23 PM

Studying up and reading all I can....

Excellent work to all involved as well as Pat. I am perusing the Changlogs, Upgrade and also the changes and hints texts to get up to speed :study:. Just wondering how this will work since I am working with Alien's multilib as well. I did setup a Slackware14.0 in a VM with all packages that I am running on my real machine with multilib, to experiment on though ;)

Daedra 11-07-2013 05:30 PM

Thanks Pat and Crew. Been running RC3 and its flawless. Slackware is like fine wine, it just gets better with age!

marnold 11-07-2013 05:45 PM

GazL 11-07-2013 06:25 PM

Already a mention on lwn.net.

Yes hitest.
In the linux world , if there is anyone who deserves full support , it's Patrick.

afreitascs 11-07-2013 08:04 PM

Congratulations to Pat, his team and also the LQ forum, for making possible :hattip:

gabytf 11-07-2013 08:06 PM

I am now running slackware more then MSoft. I know I have not fully utilized the power of slackware yet, at least it got me stick to Slackware for the more years to come :)

Thanks for the hard works and dedication.

Chuck56 11-07-2013 09:21 PM

WooHoo! Thanks to the Slackware Team and all the LQ helpers. All my machines are humming smoothly on 14.1.

ReaperX7 11-07-2013 09:28 PM

Good job Patrick!

slackcode 11-07-2013 10:13 PM

Cool~~~
But I found the SlackBuilds don't have the 14.1 branch...

Give them a little time! Slackbuilds necessarily follows Slackware after a release. I think they will not be far behind.

TracyTiger 11-07-2013 10:18 PM

With the 14.0 release it took a few weeks before Slackbuilds.org was "open for business" for the new release. The 14.1 release will probably have a similar delay.

bsdunixdb 11-07-2013 10:53 PM

Slackware 14.1

Well worth the wait and thank you dev guru's.

dugan 11-07-2013 10:59 PM

I'm sure all the 14.0 SlackBuilds work on 14.1.

SlackBuilds.org, however, needs a testing period to make sure.

irgunII 11-07-2013 11:09 PM

Right on!! Thanks to Patrick and all involved! You guys are awesome! (I want my $2.46 bribe back since you didn't release it in December like I wanted and predicted!)

GNU/Linux 11-07-2013 11:25 PM

Isn't it exciting to open change log and see the new release announcement instead. Fabulous work from Patrick, and his team. Downloading 64-bit DVD from torrent.

So far all the packages I've installed have built fine on 14.1

rg3 11-08-2013 12:15 AM

Congratulations to the whole team! Keep up the good work. Looking forward to receiving the DVD.

bobzilla 11-08-2013 12:43 AM

Thanx to Pat & team. :) Good job! Just did an upgrade on a "testing" machine and it looks nice and healthy. I'm planning a clean install in a few weeks on another one.

BroX 11-08-2013 12:57 AM

Congratulations and thanks to Patrick and all at Slackware and LQ!

Seeding as we speak!

kooru 11-08-2013 01:32 AM

Not all SlackBuild for 14.0 will work on 14.1, but most of them will :)
Yes, the admins are busy with testing all of the SlackBuilds before they are opened for public
Meanwhile, you can track their progress on the GIT repository (master branch): http://slackbuilds.org/cgit/slackbuilds/

flyingv2 11-08-2013 04:04 AM

Hurray!

Bazzaah 11-08-2013 04:05 AM

14.1 and AlienBob's KDE 4.11.3 packages running very nicely here. Thanks Pat and team!

SpiderTux 11-08-2013 04:32 AM

Thanks

For me libbonobo doesn't build. The error is:
Code:

In file included from client.c:33:0:
../bonobo-activation/bonobo-activation-private.h:34:1: error: unknown type name 'GStaticRecMutex'
 extern GStaticRecMutex _bonobo_activation_guard;
 ^
make[3]: *** [client.o] Error 1

Obviously it needs a patch because of the newer glib2 that comes with Slackware 14.1.

guanx 11-08-2013 05:25 AM

Ten times more seeds for slackware-14.1-install than slackware64-14.1-install dvd, and the number of seeds for the source dvd is the sum of the two, which seems reasonable.

Long long way to go to x86_64.
