Slackware 13 display configuration
I need some help. I have installed SW13 and I cannot seem to be able to configure my display resolution. Under windows I have it configure as 1440by900 pixels, colors = 32bit, chip = intel 965 express. Under SW the resolution = 800by600. I have try to change the resolution size but have not been able to do it. I try to run the xorgconfig command but is not installed on the computer. Any help would be appreciated.

This is what I get when I run the xrandr command.
Screen 0: minimum 64 x 64, current 1024 x 768, maximum 32000 x 32000 VBOX1 connected 1024x768+0+0 0mm x 0mm 1024x768 60.0* 800x600 60.3 640x480 59.9 I was able to get to 1024 by 768 after I run the upgrades. How do I go about re-sizeing it to 32000 by 32000? Thanks for the info. |
You're running Slackware as a guest in VirtualBox? Did you install the virtualbox addons?
Adam |
That is correct. I'm running VirtualBox. I have just tried to install the addons but got the following message:
Verifying archive integrity... All good. Uncompressing VirtualBox 3.1.6 Guest Additions for Linux........ VirtualBox Guest Additions installer Removing installed version of VirtualBox Guest Additions... Building the VirtualBox Guest Additions kernel modules ...fail! (Your system does not seem to be set up to build kernel modules. Look at /var/log/vboxadd-install.log to find out what went wrong) Installing the Window System drivers Installing X.Org Server 1.6 modules ...done. Setting up the Window System to use the Guest Additions/etc/rc.d/rc.vboxadd-x11: /usr/lib/VBoxGuestAdditions/x11config-new.pl: /usr/bin/perl: bad interpreter: No such file or directory ...done. You may need to restart the hal service and the Window System (or just restart the guest system) to enable the Guest Additions. Installing graphics libraries and desktop services components ...done. I'm going to have to look into installing the modules. Thanks again for your help. |
Please show us your /var/log/vboxadd-install.log file. Also, does /usr/bin/perl really not exist? Did you do a full installation of Slackware 13.0?
Adam |
I have install PERL so that is taking care of. Here is the contents of the voboxadd-instal.log:
/usr/share/VBoxGuestAdditions/test/build_in_tmp: line 95: make: command not found |
So, in other words, you didn't do a full installation of Slackware 13.0 :-)
You need to install make. You most likely need to install a whole lot more, so I suggest doing a full installation. Adam |
Yes that is correct. I didn't do the full install. But I got the problem fix after I installed all the packages from the D folder. Everything is working OK now. Thank you so much for your help.
