Slackware 13.37 on Macbook Pro Late 2011 (MD318E)
Hello,
I am not new on Slackware World, I have installed very successfully a lot of slackware in many PC based (IBM compatible, :roll eyes:) computers. I am not an expert-guru, but I understand the most basic things to do in a good installation. I am recently acquire a Macbook Pro Late 2011 (MD318E). So this kind of computers are a little bit differences from PC based computers. With slackware distribution and Macbook computers, all the time are in update. So there is plenty of reviews and small tutorials on the web or this forums, but there is outdate for both. Best reagards. |
I hope this link will help. It's in Indonesian. PM me if you want to help to translate.

I translate the page using chrome, but is very basic. Do not says nothing about GUID partition scheme and EFI boot. In addition do not mention anything about drivers or modules.
Best regards. |
Advance
Hello,
I show to you the actual lsmod output. Code:

I managed recently to get Slackware "Installed" this way, BUT...!
Quote:
So, I used an old Ubuntu with Grub, NOT Grub 2, to get a partition down. Then I install an openSUSE 12.1 with BTRFS and make sure it works (no WIFI). Then I use a Porteus 1.2rc in Live to see if things look right online through its Wireless Capabilities, and partition tool which shows me all my slices. If it looks cool, I use Slackware 13.37 x64, and Install on the BTRFS laid out by openSUSE. However, with LILO I had trouble getting it to reboot without adding a bunch of lines like 'nomodeset' 'nvidia' and so on. I soon added a line I forget which, and it did something to ruin my installation (which was poorly executed already obviously). So I reinstalled OS X thanks to Slackware and Porteus. Porteus for always letting me get online to research, and Slackware for allowing me to get LILO in so I can use a newer Ubuntu (NodeZero) to put an ext4 partition so OS X will reinstall (boot over it) again. Currently I am shopping for a Lenovo Think Pad and sell this MacBook Pro which I have grown to hate recently. Nothing F/OSS wants to work on it without a lot of trouble, and its not worth it to me to stay mad all the time with Lion. And I hear Mountain Lion is 10 times worse! Trade my Apple for a Think Pad any old day now! I think it best to try to downgrade back to an earlier OS X if possible, and run rEFIt and dual boot/multi boot. Lion makes it hard to do anything. Lion even made my whole rEFIt File disappear off my Desktop on a forced reboot from Apple. With 10.6 and rEFIt, a dual boot is well documented in the Ubuntu Forums for success with MacBook Pro's and Linux. See this: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/MacBook5-3/Lucid to get you in the ball park. This is the first I seen this post, its changed since I last been there. Now I am itching to try it again. BTW, Slackware 13.37, the Kernel is set up to support the BTRFS scheme, and picks up on it at booting, so the install slips right in. Setting up the right boot commands while configuring is where I messed up. Knoppix 7.0 is due out real soon. So I might ride on it until the next Slackware, and try again if I do not get a Think Pad by then. Good luck! Hope to see a real Slackbook Pro flying real soon! |
