slackware 13.37 on hp mini: touchpad and usb mouse together

I've been searching here and on Google but haven't found an answer. This has been an annoyance since upgrading from 13.1 to 13.37 on my HP Mini 1116. I can't seem to get Xorg to fully use both the synaptics touchpad and a usb mouse. In 13.1 both worked perfectly.

Currently I'm using the xorg.conf with AllowEmptyInput and AutoAddDevices both as false, keyboard section enabled and pointer section enabled with both synaptics and mouse configured. I currently have nothing in xorg.conf.d. With this the touchpad works without scrolling and the usb mouse works with scrolling.

Things I've tried so far:

Put 50-synaptics.conf and 90-keyboard_layout.conf in /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d and xorg.conf with only AllowEmptyInput and AutoAddDevices

-With AllowEmptyInput true or false makes no difference

- With AutoAddDevices=false
*keyboard works properly
*touchpad doesn't scroll
*usb mouse not detected

- With AutoAddDevices=true
*keyboard doesn't respond to "Windows" key (F13)
*Fn + End produces the expected result of the Win key
*Fn + PgUp and Fn + PgDwn are same as F3 and F4
*touchpad works with scrolling
*usb mouse works

Have tried with full xorg.conf, commenting keyboard and pointer sections while using 50* and 90* .conf

Have tried with no xorg.conf and only 50* and 90* .conf

Have tried adding usb mouse settings to 50-synaptics.conf

Have tried XkbModel=hpmini110 in both xorg.conf and 90-keyboard

Have tried VertScrollDelta

Snippets from my xorg.conf:

I can't think of or find anything else to try. Any suggestions will be appreciated.
