yes, but it also introduces too many changes that *might* break compatibility with other packages as well. I think MySQL 5.5.x should be included in the next next Slackware release (hopefully 14.0)
I've installed it manually in my server and it's running without any problems (so far). So, what can I do to help to make sure MySQL 5.5 will be included in this l33t version? Build my own Slackbuild script?

Convince Pat that your server is somehow representative of everyone else's installation.
When I saw yesterday that the latest stable kernel is now 2.6.38, I was wondering whether Pat would go to .4 or bump to 2.6.38 before release.
Probably too close to release day now to risk a .0 on a distro with such a focus on stability.
