I had tried Installing slackware 13 & windows 7 but lilo couldnt recognise windows 7 as it had a seperate partition for booting(atleast thats what i think) , so i went back to xp and slackware 13.0 , does any one have this problem ?

I mean when i tried booting to windows it showed an error

This would be the easiest way to dual boot with Windows 7:

iirc, you have to install win7 first, then install slackware. Use the windows partition app to assign required partitions for windows, but leave enough space for / and swap.

De-activate win7 partition, activate / using fdisk. win7 boot loader goes for mbr, so install lilo at /.

BTW, if you are using a *loader* of some sort for win7, you have to do it before installing slackware.

I'm dual-booting Slackware64-current (same as 13.1 at this point) and Windows 7. I had to do nothing special. Windows 7 was installed in half the hard drive and it, indeed, had two partitions. I created additional partitions for Slackware at the end of the disk and installed lilo to the MBR. Then, to be able to boot Windows again, I had to add an entry in lilo.conf the usual way:

Code:
other=/dev/sda1
        label=Windows
The only problem was finding out which one of the two partitions I needed to specify. It turned out I needed to specify the first and smallest one.

Caution with loader at mbr, because a virus might wipe it clean. Happened to me once, and I'm left with 2 non-operating operating systems!

No problem at all. I did the Slackware install 2nd and set up Lilo using the expert mode. When adding the windows 7 portion you will see 2 partitions most likely for windows. One shows bootable and is smaller, select that one (like rg3 said as well). I installed Lilo in the mbr of the primary disk (I have 2 sata drives) with windows and all works perfectly.
