Attempting to upgrade Slackware 13.1 to Slackware64 13.37 on my Thinkpad SL510 Notebook. I have Slackware64 13.37 DVD in /dev/sr0 and have copied packages to /Packages/slackware64 on my HD. I have verified md5 sums on both the DVD and on the HD Packages. All md5 sums are OK.
I am following the Upgrade.TXT instructions exactly. I upgraded pkgtools without problem. When I attempted to upgrade tar, I got the following messages:
Quote:
/sbin/installpkg:line 115:/usr/bin/tar: cannot execute binary file
WARNING: pkgtools are unstable with tar > 1.13.
You should provide a "tar 1.13" to your $PATH
Verifying package tar-1.26-x86_64-1.tgz.
Unable to install /Packages/slackware64/a/tar-1.26-x86_64.tgz: tar archive is corrupt (tar returned error code 126)
Package tar-1.23-i486-1 upgraded with new package /Packages/slackware64/a/tar-1.26-x86_64-1.tgz
|
When I check which version I have, I get the following output
Quote:
user@darkstar:~$ tar --version
bash: /usr/bin/tar: cannot execute binary file
|
This seems contradictory to me. Has the upgrade been successful with a working copy of tar-1.26? I got similar messages when I upgraded xz also.
I do not want to proceed with the upgrade, only to find out that all the upgrades are corrupted and unworkable.
