Perhaps these packages that Pat made available in the "unsupported" area will be of use to some of you: kde-3.5.10-for-slack13.0
Now that is down-right nice. Thanks Pat and team!

I am using 12.2 and 3.5.10 with my office machine and have no plans to modify that system any time soon. Yet I have been using 13.0 and 4.2.4 with my new HTPC. I must say I have found KDE buggy and cantankerous. I realize some people are not experiencing such problems but I suspect because this is an HTPC and I am dealing with complicated software layers my different results probably are no surprise. Yet even when I am not playing videos I find I have to force restart KDE with Ctrl-Alt-Backspace. There are many times when KDE seems to just hang and not respond.

I do hope some 4.3.1 packages appear with Current Real Soon Now and I hope a lot of the instability disappears. As this is an HTPC box I don't need many apps expected with a standard desktop. I do like the look-and-feel of the new KDE. Yet if KDE 4.3.1 remains unstable I might have to start thinking about other choices for a desktop. I really want to see KDE 4 succeed, but right now things are painful.

While I am very happy with KDE 4.2.4 myself, this is fantastic news for some other users! It's the most appropriate (read: user-friendly) reaction to this thread possible. Thanks!

Additionally you should know this:
The KDE3 packages will happily co-exist with Slackware 13.0's KDE4 and Qt4 packages because the KDE3/Qt3 packages will be installed to /opt/kde3 - there is no need to remove KDE4 first.
You could say that the "kde3-compat" packages in /extra are a subset of these "kde-3.5.10-for-slack13.0" packages.

As Robby noted in another thread, the README file for HOW-TO do that is
not visible from the above link. It is on Slackware's FTP server, though.
