Slackware 13.0 Full Install: smb.conf missing

Over the last week, Ive had to install Slack 13 about four times ... Long story, but ultimately discovered that the system I was installing on had some hardware problems!

Anyways, the first install saw KDE work, but trying to open my LAN shares resulted in 'smb.conf file is missing' error! Second and third install, had no trouble browsing my LAN shares! Fourth and current install, same problem as the first!!!

All four cases, its just been a full install with practically every single thing selected, no changes across installs! So why am I getting a missing smb.conf file? Any thoughts at all? It doesnt seem to have ANY logical explanation, but I REALLY cannot think of anything I did differently either!

And any pointers on getting samba installed and working on this system WITHOUT reinstalling again and hoping it works would also be greatly appreciated!

First look at /etc/samba. There should be smb.conf-sample
To setup samba, you can uncomment "#swat" in /etc/inetd.conf
Restart inetd /etc/rc.d/rc.inetd restart
Then open with your internet browser:
localhost:631

thanks for the reply ... but ... I dont know how to explain this ... I shutdown the system, restarted it, and now samba works! did not touch a single file related to samba!

UNLESS apache and php have ANYTHING to do with samba, which I doubt! I shutdown X, edited the httpd.conf and mod_php.conf files, installed the nVidia driver, turned the system off, then came back in a bit and turned it on again, and now Samba works and I can access my shares!

Thanks for the info nevertheless, it always helps to know where and what files to tinker with to get things running!!!
