slackware 13.0 compiz cube
 

Hello,

I installed the nvidia drivers version 173 for my video card. I have enabled desktop cube and rotating cube in compizconfig. Still, I dont see the effects. Did I forget anything?

I'm sure the video drivers are installed, because when I run startx I see the Nvidia logo appear for a fraction of a second, which it wasnt doing when the drivers werent installed.

How did you start compiz?

Huh? Doesnt it just start automatically when you load X? I mean compiz is installed and all, and the compizconfig is there too. Do I have to do something else?

You actually have to *start* compiz. Just because firefox is installed on your machine doesn't mean it automatically starts up when you load X, does it? Assuming you followed directions to install all of compiz-fusion (which I guess is the case since you have compizconfig settings manager), bring up a terminal and run:

$ compiz --replace ccp &

Ok I ran the command. When I open up a terminal, something weird happens. Its stuck on the top of the screen, without any title bar available, all I have is the File Edit View menu that appears, thats if I make the top panel on autohide mode, or else its unaccessible. Pretty messed up. But yeah your command gets the cube working all right.

Another funny thing, theres no man entry for compiz.

Did you enable the window decoration plugin and do you have a command ('emerald', perhaps) in the Command field in the window decoration plugin? Can you move windows with alt+mouse1?

Hum ok so I installed emerald. I'm not at home right now. Maybe that was the problem, no window decorator...

Ok I installed the compiz icon too, and emerald, and everything works great. Just need to work on the colors. But it rocks.
