slackware 12.2 kde 4.2 slow

Hi!

Im wondering to get some insight from you friends.

when i used slackware 12.1 and kde 3.5 kde worked perfectly well, and fast

when i upgraded to 12.2 and kde 4.2x (now im using 4.2.4 ) kde is very slow.

what cause this? Is it posible to fix it? thank you guys very much!

12.2 doesn't have kde-4.x, so it's probably some variant of YDIW.

What about KDE 4.2.4 in -current is slow?

"KDE is very slow" is just so ambiguous. Does it load slow?

Do you hardware acceleration with your video module? I learned
that after updating to X.Org 1.6.1 the Nvidia driver required
reinstalling, or I had no acceleration.

What special eye candy have you turned on?

You really don't give much more than a poor rant, and nothing
technical for someone to address. Since Robby has been building
KDE, you have a perfect chance to get good support. Shape up,
man, do you always want to be a Slacker?

yes it loads slow and application runs slower
i got intel onboard graphic card 82865G

about hardware accleration - how can i turn it on/off?

To see if 3D (or DRI) is enabled, do the following command on a terminal, while logged in on KDE:

glxinfo
Look for this line near the beginning of the output:
Code:
direct rendering: Yes (if enabled) or direct rendering: No (if disabled)
I'm thinking that your 3D driver is not enabled and thus why KDE is slower than usual.

What hardware are you running? KDE 4 likes a lot of RAM for caching.

All sorts of tweaks and optimizations are being suggested. All good. All except the obvious - so I'll risk the flames.

IMHO, kde is the problem; there seems to be nobody in charge there, so they keep adding more code and eye candy for the hourglass, because most users will spend their time looking at just that! And since kde-2.0, it just gets bigger and bigger with little improvement. It doesn't appear to be optimized because bash scripts run faster here.

Any pc I have owned grinds to a near halt with kde. It's the 'm$ windows vista' of Linux. XFCE is advertised as a 'low cholesterol window manager'. I jumped at the idea - haven't seen an hourglass, and haven't looked back. It's on the install CD too. It does 90% of what kde does with about 20% of the code. Leave the kde libs installed. Then you can use any kde program you really want.
