slackware 12.1 GSB executable system files

The Strange thing happens with the GSB 12.1 for some reason the /usr/sbin/gdm file changes from executable to non-executable. and also in the /etc/rc.d/rc.alsa ,rc.inet1 file and hald and couple others change from executable to non executable. and of course you know what happens things do not start up well from the rc.M file.
I thought it was from running both the kde and Gnome stuff not sure. so this install was a base install with gsb installed. Been working on this for some time. I have been looking at the shut down scripts i am at a lose. this happened with the stock kernel and the new one you see below.
Linux bicycle 2.6.27.7-smp #2 SMP Thu Nov 20 22:32:43 CST 2008 i686 AMD Athlon(tm) Processor AuthenticAMD GNU/Linux
Any input would be nice.
