Great job rworkman and Alien_Hominid! I'll stick with Slackware12, since you are helping me learn how to it up to do what I need. Alien any links to more about file/web server setup in Slackware12.
Could I keep my current kernel and just get rid of all the modules I don't need for scsi, raid, extra kernels, whatever I have no use for. Thanks

Yeah, what shadowsnipes said. I wrote the build script at SlackBuilds.org, and I use it to create a binary package that I make available for others in case you're interested - see the links in my signature.

What is the doinst.sh? How does your script work is it in the download package? Is this your slackbuild: http://slackbuilds.org/slackbuilds/1...ice.org.tar.gz
Or is this it?
http://slackbuilds.org/slackbuilds/1...org.tar.gz.asc

I understand what the script does, Does it run the build from source and that is why i don't need source in above packages so that I just install the above packages?

I know I can probably just uncomment options in your script following your instructions where does the script get stored or copied to and how does it get executed? Thanks to all you guys I am running slackware12, xfce, solo as of today. This thread ought to be a sticky for Ooo.

Have a look at the following links:

If any of the questions are still lingering after that, let me know. :)

rworkman, Thanks after reading all the links, I went back to your profile and went to your homepage to follow links to your binary packages, finally just "installpkg". Quik question your xfce bug fix package, if i upgrade my 4.4.1 (Xfce 4.4)would I have to reconfigure xorg.conf, snd, or open office? Appreciate your slack packages really helpful to get slack interested users with limited knowledge up and running at least this way you can get some work
done instead of having to learn so much before and learn as you go along what
you need and as your time allows.

No, the xfce-4.4.2 package was built on a clean Slackware 12.0 installation, and the Xfce team is careful to ensure API/ABI compatibility in bugfix releases.

NightSky, you can read Shilo's guide. If you wish more, then read apache's manual.
