Unhappy Slackware 11 - Sound problem

Hi there,

I've installed Slackware 11 on my laptop as well now, and I have a major sound problem. I've configured ALSA and sound started working. Great!
But only when KDE starts I can hear that music playing, I open up Amarok, Start playing some tunes, everything works. Then I tried to watch some movies in youtube.com (mozilla firefox) and there was no sound
I tried to watch one of my good ol movies(DVD), installed everything properly, but same error again, I could see the movie, but i couldn't hear it.
Thenk I opened up KDE Control Center(or what it's called in english) and went through Sound settings.
I ran across a option something with sound server aG or aHsomething, tried to check it out and I got an error and that anoying beep. That some msdwrapper or m-something-wrapped wasn't run properly with the sound driver or it does not exist.
Sorry cuz i didn't provide exact error messages, but i'm curently at work so i can't check them out, but when I get home Ill provide you with exact error messages.
If you could please help me out with this.

Yea...definitely need more, but it sounds like you're missing something from mplayer. Best I can do atm, but I hope it helps others.

ok now I don't get that error message anymore
and that aG or aH-something was aRts

but when I run Control for aRts(translated back to english from my language)
and go to View - Status aRts
it pops up a window and says:
aRts must restart!
i klick ok and then a message:
Artsd would have to run with real-timem, but it's not runing(is artswrapper suid root?).

Sound server aRts will not go into don't-know-how-its-called, because some modules are still runing.

In the KDE Control Center Test sound works, but Test MIDI doesn't

I'll try to reinstall the mplayer and report back any changes, if there will be changes

well i tried it but it didn't work, still the same problem

i've found an error but don't know how to fix it
it's when i try to run artsd
i get an error:
ALSA lib pcm_dmix.c:846snd_pcm_dmix_open) unable to create IPC shm instance
Error while initializing the sound driver:
device: default can't be opened for playback (Invalid argument)

ok i still have the same problem
i've googled half the web but can't find anything that would help me

mplayer
works ok
youtube still doesn't play any sound, metacafe the same
mp3 playback is fine, in every program, amarok, xine, gxine, mplayer...

i'm using mozilla firefox 2.0.0.1
i've tried more browser, no changes

any help on this one would be really helpful!

edit: a reboot helped
the sound works now
but...it's terrible
bad quality

did you try to install flash-player 9?

if you didn't .. download http://gama.us/files/Temp/Archive.tar.gz .. and unzip both of files in there to /home/USER/.mozilla/plugins/ directory

or else .. msg me via mail -> rico@gama.us .. or msn -> msn@gama.us

What about alsamixer from command line? Maybe you experience distortion because of high-levels..

Yeah it works !

In fact i reinstalled it whole ... i compile the kernel ... reboot ... load Kmix and configure and all is good !
I can say that my Amilo M3438G Fujitsu / Siemens works well under Slackware.

Now i've to make my Ntfs partition writable ... i hope the last kernel would help me ...
I've to install Gnome
and the worst last .... Penggy to have a connection because is that or nothing ! Argh !
