Cool Slackware 11.0 and MySql 5.0.24a

Hello all !

I recently was attempting to work with mysql. Well I discovered that when I enabled it to be started up automatically from installing Slackware 11 fresh, I was quick to notice that at boot, it attempted to start, and then it gave an error. Well, I worked somethings out and got it working again thanks to some on-line searching, here is what I did :

by default, slack doesn't do this command :

mysql_install_db --user=mysql

which must be done. After that, there are files and directories in /var/lib/mysql that need to be of user=mysql group=mysql

for that: (the usual)

chown mysql:mysql ./*

make sure you chown the directories and their contents. After that, you are golden.

From /etc/rc.d/rc.mysqld:

--snip--
# Before you can run MySQL, you must have a database. To install an initial
# database, do this as root:
#
# su - mysql
# mysql_install_db
#
# Note that step one is becoming the mysql user. It's important to do this
# before making any changes to the database, or mysqld won't be able to write
# to it later (this can be fixed with 'chown -R mysql.mysql /var/lib/mysql').
--snip--
