slackware 10 soundblaster live alsa


Hello, cant seem to get this darn thing working. I ran alsaconf and it found my sblive card. I ran alsamixer and it popped up with my tv tuner card so i ran alsamixer -c 1 and nothing is muted I also did a
chmod 666 /dev/mixer*
chmod 666 /dev/dsp*

still nothing.any suggestions?

okay i get this error from gnome

alsa lib pcm_hw.c:1155(snd_pcm_hw_open) open /dev/snd/pcmc0d0p failed no such device

anythoughts?

did you recompile the driver? I know that if you did anything with your kernel, you have to recompile your alsadriver to get it to work properly.

Is your sblive card0 or card1. My guess is that the tvcard or simular device is detected as card0 and your sblive as card1.

maybe you can just exchange the cards .
( well....just a thought , there must be a better solution )

Kinda. I have an SBlive and a bt878 too. At one point, like you, the bt878 was
recognized before the sblive by alsaconf. I could not figure a software way
around it, so I removed both cards, removed alsa, installed alsa, installed my sblive
card, ran alsaconf, then installed by bt878 card. And that solved it.

I'm sure there must be a file to edit to change the order, but I couldn't find it

in ALSA you need to uses the aliases lines in the conf to address differing cards in differing orders.

In this case it's just I'm guessing that devive 0 is the TV tuner and device 1 the SBLive!
...your sound apps are all preconfigured to hunt down device 0.

Oddly all this is covered in the ALSA readme files :-)
