im having the same problem i had in slackware 9. no sound. i tried the same stuff i did i 9.0, aumix, alsaconfig, alsactl store, all those, still nothing. i rebuilt a kernel, still nothing, and my sound card is supported in linux (intel i8x0)
i rebuilt a 2.6.7 kernel, but it doesnt appear to be booting, even though i told lilo to boot the image i made. how can i check if im booting 2.6?
all the times I had sound issues I removed all the alsa packages (removepkg alsa*) and then reinstalled. After that run alsaconf as root. After that run alsamixer as a user. And for the finale run alsactl store. Always has worked for me.
they were modules, but upon bootup, its detected my card and loaded the modules.
how cani tell if im booting the 2.6 kernel? it doesnt look like there's any difference, no speed increase or anything, its acting just like the 2.4 kernel.
after i remove alsa (removepkg alsa*) how do i reinstall it? i mean, of course i do "installpkg alsa" but there's other programs i will need to install too, arent there?
you can tell what kernel you are loading by the lilo screen. if you using a stock slack 10 install then it's probably 2.4. Unless you went through the hoops of using the 2.6.7 kernel from Pat. You may want to upgrade, it's extremely easy. here is the link http://slackware.at/data/slackware-1...s/linux-2.6.7/
There's 2.6 kernel stuff on the 2nd Slackware CD, under testing - install everything under the kernel section, which includes new alsa packages.
Also note: in Slackware you need to add users to the sound group in order for them to output any sound. If it works as root but not a user then this is your problem.
that link above helped. blacklisting solved the problem.
blacklist, then run the alsa tools to unmute the card, and save the settings.
took so long to reply because, for a while, i was using suse 9.1, but came back to slackware because it had less flaws, like GNOME support!!! (good gnome support)
