slackware 10 hardware questions

I´m getting a new computer soon. It will be a pure linux box so I´m wondering if anyone has any experiences with the same hardware + slackware 10. Note: I posted a question earlier about intel 875 based motherboards in the hardware section, but I read that some distros refuse to install on canterwood (875) motherboards - for example fedora core 2.

The system I´m getting:
motherboard: intel 875P based, for example intel 875PBZ/asus P4C800/abit ic-7(or ic-7 max)
soundcard: audigy 2
harddrive: UIDE 100 western digital. So, any slackware 10 users that have similar hardware - did everything work out the the box?

1.) Is AGP stable and fast with the standard agpgart module (3dcard will be nvidia of course)?
2.) How about dma mode for the IDE harddrives, does it work? I´ve read some people complaining about it.
3.) Does hotplug autodetect the integrated e1000 module NIC?
4.) How does alsa work with audigy 2? (it uses the emu10k1 module afaik)

Thanks

1) I have a nVidia GeForce3 Ti 500, which gives me about 260 fps at 1280x1024 (although I don't know if this is good or bad) with both the agpgart of the nvidia graphics driver and with the agpgart of the kernel.

2) I have enabled dma (maybe Slack did it for me, but I have done some tweaking myself), which with hdparm -tT gives:
Code:
Timing buffer-cache reads: 2120 MB in 2.00 seconds = 1060.16 MB/sec
Timing buffered disk reads: 102 MB in 3.01 seconds = 33.86 MB/sec
3) Don't know

4) I have the Creative Labs SB Live! soundcard, which uses the emu10k1 module, and it works perfect with ALSA.

Well, maybe not the same stuff as you (will) have, but perhaps similar.

Cheers

all known hardware brands are supported, even if it is not you can find a driver on the net, so don't worry about it too much. my almost new laptop was not even on the "linux compatible" list but slack works better then windows on it :d

Hello,

Well gernerally all mainboards work with Linux. If you have problems, you have them with the onboard devices like LAN-chip, RAID-controller, Soundchip et cetera.
From my own expirience I can tell you, that Intel based motherboards work very well with Linux. I myself use a MSI Neo2 with i865PE chipset and everything just works. I suggest, that you simply search for the exact name of the Mainboard and add the words "linux" and "problem" to the search and see what you can find :-)

Now to your questions:
1) As Bebo I also did not encounter any problems with my NVidia GeForce FX-5600
2) dma works "out-of-the-box"
3) I believe the NIC has nothing to do with hotplug; I think the NIC has to do with the kernel and there are kernel drivers for the Intel chips
4) I use a CMI onbaord chip and it gives me a good sound
