Slackware 10 Developement Team - Thank You! Thank You! and Thank you!

just wanted to drop a quick note the the developers (contributors, managers, programmers , hackers, etc) who have all contributed to the success of slackware 10.0, it took a couple of days but i knew it would be worth it....

just wanted to thank you for bringing my machine up to date with all the new toys i have to play with now, things like USB 2.0....

ok ok, so thats been on Mac & Windows for years, big deal. right now it's on Linux and i'm having a ball with it....

seriously, the real excitement stems from my growing ability to fix all my own problems, with slackware, you only have to look under the cover a little bit, it's all a matter of having things in the logical place....!

way to go slackware team!

thanks again

I share your excitement over Slack 10.0, but got kinda lost with
the USB 2.0 deal. It was there in Slack-9.1, actually, it's been in
the kernels for quite some time now....

i got serious problems getting usb 2 to work with slack 10 ... especially with kernel 2.4.26 ...
i wonder if these 2 are in relation and if 2.6 could help ...
and the new hotplug is so buggy btw ...

Bruce Hill 07-21-2004 09:07 AM

USB 2.0 works fine for me in 2.4.26, as it has in about 4 other
2.4.x series kernels. But hotplug being buggy, maybe that's
why if I mount with my usb gas drive plugged in, the usb mouse
won't work properly. It only goes up and down, not right and
left. And nothing short of a reboot has fixed this so far.

I like some of the package updates in Slack-10.0, and I've been
using the 2.4.26 kernel, but I sure seem to have some gremlins
in Slack-10.0 that I just can't track down...

well the bug i had was with this thinkpad r40 laptop ...
the modem wasnt recognized, and at boot time, hotplug kinda "replaced" the modem with the soundcard .. i had to add "snd-intel8x0m" to the hotplug blacklist ... i think its quite a popular bug .. happens with everyone :p

With regards to the original post, I have to agree. This is the BEST distro by far that I've ever used! I futzed around for a month with SuSE 9.1 pro and the latest Mepis and PCLOS for my husband's box. They all had terrible bugs and instabilities that I couldn't seem to fix no matter what I tried. Finally gave up and put in Slack 10. You know, the HARD distro, lol! What can I say? Everything just works! That's not to say I didn't have to tweak and configure stuff, but that's not the same as fighting bugs. And everything is where it's supposed to be if you know where to look.

I'm a Slack subscriber and I encourage everyone to subscribe and support this great distro.

Peace,
Siri Amrit
