Slackware 10 Creative Soundblaster making weird sound.

I just installed Slackware 10 and after i ran the alsaconf my sound works but when somehtig isn't running that uses it, it makes a very loud annoying kind of feeback like sound. Im thinking I need to change the sound drivers but i tried both the options in the alsconf and nothing works wht do i do?

turn off 3d
adjust your channels with alsamixer or kmix
move your mic away from your speakers
