slackware 10.2: compiling the kernel?
 
Hi, i'm a newbie, just installed slackware 10.2
but the sound doesn't work, however i've got the driver cd, the instruction says to build a driver by
make config in /usr/src/linux and set CONFIG_SOUND=m
I did that, now how do i compile the kernel before proceeding further, plz help i'm stuck here, i'm using the 2.4.31 kernel

You should not need to compile a new kernel to use sound with Slackware. After installing Slackware, run alsaconf as root to configure the sound module on your system.

Once configured, you can run alsamixer to adjust the volume settings, and then alsactl store to save then as a default.
