Unhappy Slackware 10.1 - Trying to get audio working (VT8233)

Hello folks,

I am dreadfully sorry to add yet another thread about the Via VT8233 sound chipset... but none of the threads thusfar have helped me out very much.

Some information about my system:

Slackware 10.1
Kernel: 2.4.29
Latest ALSA

Installed alsa from Slackware packages, ran alsaconfig and it detected my soundcard fine. Afterwards I went through alsamixer and turned Master, PCM, Master Surround to max, and unmuted them.

Unfortunately, I can not hear audio (tried both the audio ports on the computer), tried using aplay, mpg123, and xmms inside a vnc connection.

This is a headless box, I dont use KDE or GNome.

My lspci shows:

I have an ATI IXP chipset and I hade to mute the external to get my sound to work. Not sure if it works on your chipset.

I assume you mean "External Amplifier" in alsamixer? I have this muted already :/

Have you tried unmuting the other things as well when you run alsamixer, just to be sure?

I think I have unmuted just about everything that would seem to be audio output related :/

Also some screenshots of what my alsamixer looks like, in case im missing something, or doing something silly
