Slackware 10.1 and Wacom Graphire3
I have tried unsuccessfully to get this tablet working. Has anyone been able to get the Graphire3 tablet working under SW 10.1 using X.org?
|
I'm not positive, but it looks like the Linux Wacom Project may be of use? They list Slackware 10 with x.org under the Success Stories heading.

I got my USB wacom tablet working just with enabling
it in kernel config, xorg.conf was ok without modification, you connect the tablet and it works... Features to enable in kernel 2.6.12.2 : Device Drivers/USB support/Wacom Intuos/Graphire tablet support Device Drivers/Input device support/Event interface (all as module, I prefer) |
Keefaz,
Do you get pressure sensitivity in GIMP with that method? I was under the impression that you needed to recompile the modules using the download from the linuxwacom site and replace the generic kernel modules. I also have a rathe extensive xorg.conf as well. This is what I did successfully, but I'm curious as to whether support for the wacom3 is better in the latest 2.6 kernel. I am running 2.4.31 Steve |
I confirm that I get the pressure sensitivity with gimp,
with the default Wacom kernel module ;) Also I didn't edit xorg.conf, the tablet is recognised and works as soon as I connect it |
Ah, the joys of 2.6.xx ...
Perhaps the time has come for me to join the rest of the world. |
I'm getting this error message:

I can't seem to find XF86 build environment. Help!!!! Please. |
Don't worry. You just need to use the precompiled wacom_drv.o that you will find in the src directory (I believe). Read the directions on the linuxwacom site - I know they are a bit overwhelming, but it is not too terrible.
If your still stuck I'll be more specific in the AM. Too tired now. |
Franklin: OK I'm still stuck. I've gone through this two more times; evidently I'm missing something here. Your help would be very much appreciated.

LinuxLuvr, just a thought, did you install x11-devel package ?
|
Below are the build options I used and the output.
You will need to replace the generic kernel modules with the newly compiled versions. I also needed to make wacom.o into wacom.o.gz by gunzipping it for slack to see it as a module. I used the supplied wacom_drv.o from the file with the corresponding kernel name. Code:
bash-3.00$ ./configure --enable-wacom --enable-hid --enable-evdev --enable-mousedev --enable-usbmouse --enable-input |
Try installing the x11-devel package.

As it turns out, I did have everything, but was not understanding what I saw. Franklin thanks for including your output; it matched mine and shed light on where the problem lay. I'm well on my way to getting everything working from the HOWTO file. Thanks to everybody who shed light on this!
|
I saved that output because it took me forever to figure this out as well. Once I got it, I realized it was fairly simple. The problem (for me) is that the howto at the linux wacom project page is just "information overload". People who write these things need to start with an "idiot" howto, followed by a more in-depth discussion.
This is an example of linux seeming difficult because people who know how don't know how to tell how. Glad you're getting up to speed. |
Well, I'm not out of the woods yet. I can't seem to get either of the wacom_drv modules to load. When I try loading them I get:
