slackware 10.0 pcmcia atheros ar5212 (802.11g)

Hi

UPDATE : see update in the end of my text.....

I took the chance to put this question in the slackware forum, since it's on my slack 10.0 I'm going to use this equipment. Feel free to move it....

Here goes...
I've been reading a lot the last week, but don't get it 100%.

First my hardware :

http://www.3com.com/prod/en_EU_EMEA/...ku=3CRWE454A72
and
http://www.3com.com/prod/en_EU_EMEA/...ku=3CRWE154A72

Tha last one got the Atheros AR5212 chip (802.11abg) if lspci is not mistaken (?) and it sits in my Dell Latitude C600 (if that has anything to say).

My dumb question is how to get this up and running? Most of the sites write alot of info about "nothing" and not what I need right now for the first time...a step by step guide... (or some hint in the right direction as I'm used to get things up'n running by my self after some reading on the net)

Does anyone have experiences with this card? If I'm right, all that is needed is to insert it (yes, it's recognized in /var/log/messages) then use iwconfig and ifconfig. Just one thing before that... the kernel needs to load the right module.... but witch one??? where to get the right one?

I've seen that some cards need to be flashed with a firmware.... does this card belong to this group? (prism54.org)

Is this ( http://www.linuxant.com/driverloader/ ) an option? or will I find something that works in our community?

Can somebody just tap on my shoulder and tell me if I'm on the right track here.... or lost...

Thank you all for reading

Update :

Just needed to learn to use cvs .... hehe sorry.....so , what I did - get the latest driver from cvs.... here : http://sourceforge.net/projects/madwifi/ then did a make and insmod on the 3 generated files (see the README) and voila.... iwconfig shows me what I was looking for. The rest should go easy :)

Help with AP

Hello, I own the 3com 3crwe454a72 AP as well. Thr problem is that I want the AP directly connected to my Linux box. Unfortunately the AP will not reply at all using this connection, in contrast to if I connect it to a switch or Window$. Any idea what is blocking the connectin?
Thank you

I have written a Wiki page on madwifi for Slackware: here
With that information, you should have that Atheros card working in no time.

Cheers, Eric
